A PADI Rescue Diver Course will test your ability to solve problems under pressure and give you the tools to spot and deal with difficult situations before they develop into full-blown crises. With its emphasis on prevention, self-rescue, and the importance of managing situations effectively, the Rescue Diver Course will equip you to deal with a wide range of typical problems, making you a better buddy, and increasing your confidence as a diver. And why not practice all of this while you are in a beautiful location? The abundance of fish found in the waters around Gili Trawangan will not disappoint any diver. Indonesia is home to more than 3,000 species of marine life and on the Gili Islands you will surely witness a great number of these species during your course, even though, you might not be focusing that much on them as you normally would!
Some of the greatest fish seen during diving and snorkeling are white tip reef sharks, turtles, cuttle fish, moray eels, and leaf scorpion fish. Huge schools of fish move around the dive sites. For the diver more interested in coral, great rock formations at the deeper sights offer world class coral, some of the best in the world. There are sites here suitable for all levels of divers and a lot of dive sites to choose from. The distance between the dive center and all the dive sites is very short. You will have plenty of time to relax on land between all dives.
The Rescue diver course is full of challenges and hands on learning experiences - it's also a lot of fun! The course involves learning in-water rescue skills which are then tried and tested in Open water Rescue scenarios/dives until mastered. The Rescue Diver Course does involve reading the Rescue Diver Manual, academic sessions with your Instructor and a multiple choice written exam at the end.
Courses are strictly following all the PADI or SSI standards, but can and will be conducted to fit your performance. But roughly, your first day will consist of confined water skills and class work, equipping you with basic skills such as assisting a panicking diver, surfacing an unconscious diver, and out of air drills. In the classroom you will learn how to quickly identify stress in divers and how to minimise the risks associated with differing diving conditions. The second, third and forth days are spent on the boat or shore simulating emergencies, conducting searches, and learning how best to manage the human resources available, as well as learning how to administer oxygen, and in-water artificial ventilation techniques. Be prepared for unexpected rescue scenarios! Day five will be spent on land with theory and the final exam. Remember no diving 24 hours before flying. Please remember to book an EFR course, if you are not already an Emergency First Responder (within 24 months). This is an extra day added to the package. An extra day after the course for some fun diving is a nice luxury after the tough course!
