The Pacific Coast is famed for pristine beaches, epic views and giant Redwoods. Travel down one of the most scenic roads that the USA has to offer, Highway 1. Hike in coastal old-growth rainforests and chill out on isolated, unspoilt beaches. Let's not forget the big city attractions of San Francisco, Portland and Seattle, where coolness is a way of life. See and experience the far western states of California, Oregon and Washington, on one epic road trip along the coast.

  • Days 1 Los Angeles & Santa Barbara

With the Californian sun on your face you're off to Hollywood where you'll find the famous sign and Walk of Fame. It's now time to leave the glitz and glam of LA behind you and head to the coast. First up is Santa Barbara, a gem of a coastal city with a decidedly Spanish flair with miles of pristine sandy beaches, this is a great introduction to the incredible Californian Coast. Accommodation: Camping included

  • Days 2 Big Sur

With each passing mile on California's most famous road, the Pacific Coast Highway, the coastline grows yet more spectacular. Redwood forested mountains lean down towards beautiful sandy beaches and the pounding Pacific swell. Follow the coastal path to one of the most iconic scenes of Big Sur, McWay Falls a stunning 80 ft. waterfall that cascades directly onto its own private beach. With such amazing scenery and tons of wildlife, including sea lions and whales, it's no surprise that people say this is one of the best stretches of road on the West Coast and we couldn't agree more! Accommodation: Camping included

  • Days 3-4 Yosemite National Park

As you say 'so long' to the ocean for a couple of days you head towards the snowy peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the towering peaks of Yosemite National Park. You'll have two days to hike, bike, or float through this extraordinary landscape of glacier-carved granite monoliths, spectacular waterfalls and groves of Giant Sequoia trees. Make the most of the great selection of hiking trails suitable for all levels of fitness and be sure to keep your eyes peeled for bear and coyotes roaming the trails. After a morning of hiking why not explore Yosemite Village with its museum, art galleries and short walking trails? Accommodation: Camping included

  • Days 5-6 San Francisco

Come fog or shine this city is awesome! Start with a walk across Golden Gate Bridge and a visit to Haight-Ashbury, a street oozing with hippy vibes and plenty of quirky shops and cafes. Head down to Pier 39 to see the resident sea lions who flock there in their hundreds - you'll definitely hear them before you see them! Seafood is aplenty here, so make sure you sample a delicious crab roll at Fisherman's Wharf. The highlights keep coming thick and fast with an included trip to the city's most famous attraction, Alcatraz Prison (worth US$30). Learn all about the prisoners who spent their lives trying to escape with a superb audio tour. In the evening, set sail on an optional sunset sail cruise for a different perspective of the famous Golden Gate Bridge. Accommodation: Hostels included

  • Days 7-8 Redwood National Park

As you drive along the stunning Californian Coast to Redwood National Park, you'll be well and truly spoilt with amazing scenery around every bend. Get out and stretch those legs with a hike through Tall Trees Grove trail and keep an eye out for elk and bear who can be found hiding under the canopy of the Redwoods. As the name suggests the trees along this trail are tall! They are in fact the tallest trees on Earth, so be prepared to spend a lot of time looking up. As you explore more of the park you might start to recognise the canyons covered in fern and moss from Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park 2: The Lost World. Don't worry though, the dinosaurs are long gone! Accommodation: Camping included
