The diving around Paje is pristine with some of the finest corals to be found in East Africa. There is a protected natural lagoon only ten minutes away by boat, a great choice for all levels of divers and accompanying snorkelers. The dive sites close to Paje offer a number of good safe and protected dives also in the rougher rainy season and in general for beginners. Doing the Open Water course in Paje, you will experience the amazing marine life, the instance you are ready to leave the swimming pool. Even the dive sites for beginners are full of exciting things to explore.
In addition, you have a number of sites on the outer reef within a 25-minute boat ride of the dive center, offering a wide variety of bigger fish like king fish, yellow fin tuna, barracudas, reef sharks, turtles, napoleon fish and from time to time dolphins. But, the biggest and the best - but only in season - humpback whales! That would be something for your logbook...
The PADI Open Water Course is performance based. That means you have to understand and pass the theory and perform the in-water skills correctly and with ease. Therefore, the itinerary can vary slightly from course to course. The course will take 3 to 4 days depending on the students enrolled.

The PADI Open Water Diver course is the most popular diving certificate worldwide. After completing this 3-4 day course you are certified to dive to 18 m independently with a buddy. The course consists of five modules of learning. You study via self-study workbook and complete a knowledge review. The instructor reviews everything with you to ensure that everything are confidently understood. The practical learning consists of pool sessions and four open water dives. The final stage of the PADI Open Water course is an exam, which is a multiple choice exam covering all that you have learnt. The course generally takes 3 to 4 days, with the theoretical, the pool and the open water part successfully passed. We’ll be checking you in at a cozy African style hotel with a Scandinavian touch. A stone’s throw from one of the world’s most beautiful beaches! (Go for a walk at low tide and experience the local seaweed ladies at work). The staff is friendly and ready to help you with everything you need. The hotel has changing exhibitions of local African art, and offer free afternoon courses in the local language, Swahili. Free wifi and lush garden with hammocks. The cozy upstairs lounge is a great place to meet other travellers.
