The Goa Volunteer program offers opportunities for volunteering in the fields of teaching, childcare and women's empowerment. It is guaranteed to suit anyone wanting to make a contribution to socially deprived areas in Goa while enjoying the beautiful beaches of this famous destination. Despite the apparent benefits of large-scale tourism, Goa remains a stark reminder of many social issues like poor education, inadequate infrastructure and HIV/AIDS that still face the Indian society in general. Combine valuable volunteering with a chance to discover the real India, at a volunteer camp located a short distance from a stunning sandy beach.

The Goa Community Volunteer program enables you to provide education, care and empowerment to the communities you visit. Working in local schools, volunteers offer much needed support to local teachers, adding to the children’s educational experience by instructing classes while helping to develop students’ positive attitudes about personal hygiene and school attendance. When schools are not in session, volunteers can assist the volunteer organization and the community to run independent classes in English and maths. Volunteers also teach at special schools for mentally challenged children, providing much needed emotional support and teaching educational as well as job related skills. For those volunteers with a professional interest in education, this opportunity offers a chance to improve their skills in a unique environment.

Volunteers may also assist in local childcare centers, known as Aanganbari. Unfortunately, Aanganbaris suffer from underfunding and mismanagement. Volunteers share the workload with the regular staff and help bring a level of professionalism, dedication and the community’s attention to these important institutions. In addition to working at the projects, volunteers will have ample opportunity to experience the local cultures and lifestyles as well as plenty of free time to explore the surrounding areas.
  • Location

Known as the cultural bridge between the east and the west, Goa is home to a wide variety of ethnic, cultural, religious and linguistic varieties. What was once a former Portuguese colony is now the smallest geographical Indian state, but one of the most diverse and appealing. Goa is particularly famous among foreign travelers for its great climate and fantastic white sandy beaches. The inland, with its plentiful flora and fauna, is internationally recognized as a biodiversity hotspot and compared to the Amazon and Congo basins for its rich tropical diversity. Finally, authentic Indian food and dance, influenced by its wealth of cultural and religious varieties, offer a distinct and enriching cultural experience for any traveler.
